Mario Soto (footballer)

Mario Soto Benavides (born July 10, 1950 in Santiago de Chile) was a Chilean football defender, who played for his native country in the 1982 FIFA World Cup.〔(Mario Soto Statistics ) FIFA. Retrieved 4 February 2010.〕 In total for his country he played 48 matches scoring 1 goal between 1975 and 1985. Soto is one of the biggest idols of Chilean club Cobreloa.
He became notorious in Brazil for his violent behaviour in the 1981 Copa Libertadores de América finals, against Flamengo -- which prompted Flamengo coach Paulo César Carpegiani to order forward Anselmo to knock him out at the last minutes of the match, after Flamengo had secured the title.
He also played for club football for Chileans CD Magallanes and Unión Española, and Brazilian side Palmeiras.
